The UYMP office is operating very limited hours while the staff remain on furlough. You can still obtain music from our catalogue in the usual way, from Musicroom.com, and hire from our agent Wise Music Classical. Please contact UYMP composers directly, via their own websites, if you have any queries.

Following on from the BBC SO’s excellent performance of Weligwic at Tectonics festival (read our article here for more information), James Weeks has a new CD out now, in partnership with EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble. UYMP were also pleased to hear James featured on a recent edition of the composer focused podcast Soundmaking.

EXAUDI’s disc, Book of Flames and Shadows, features studio recordings of Weeks’ Fantasie di Strani e dolci misteri della parola, and his Libro di fiammelle e ombre. His works are interlaced with madrigals by Jacques Arcadelt, and, in the composers words, the disc ‘[takes] in Petrarch, arcane Renaissance literary aesthetics, evocations of defunct string instruments, dissolving madrigals, and several swans.’

It is available now to buy or stream – UYMP certainly recommend having a listen!

Further to this CD, James can also be heard on a Soundmaking, a podcast by Håkon Stene and Matthew Shlomowitz where composers and performers discuss the how and why of music they created. In his episode, James goes into detail about the creation of his work Summer. It’s a fascinating listen – you can find it here.
