The UYMP office is operating very limited hours while the staff remain on furlough. You can still obtain music from our catalogue in the usual way, from Musicroom.com, and hire from our agent Wise Music Classical. Please contact UYMP composers directly, via their own websites, if you have any queries.

UYMP House Composer Ed Hughes’s new CD is due to be released on 10th June. Inspired by and rooted in the South Downs, an iconic range of undulating chalk hills in the south-east of England, Hughes has immersed himself in this ancient landscape, exploring the paths and tumuli, forts and field systems, and drawing on the rich vein of Sussex folk song to create a series of vivid and contrasting chamber works.

Judith Weir CBE, composer and Master of the Queen’s Music, had several kind words to say about this new disc: she found that ‘all the works in this rich collection … surge forward with textural warmth and harmonic continuity. This is music for walkers, and people who love the earth’. Featuring performances by the New Music Players and the Primrose Piano Quartet, the album of new music comes after two soundwalks Hughes created for the Echoes Interactive Soundwalks App (‘The Cuckmere Soundwalk’ and ‘Brighton Festival Ditchling Museum Music Trail’). Indeed, Hughes was commissioned by the South Downs National Park Authority in 2021 to complete a score to a new film by Sam Moore, ‘South Downs: A Celebration’, to mark the National Park’s tenth anniversary, and this music became the first movement of one of the album's works, Nonet.

UYMP are always pleased to see (and hear!) new recordings of our composers' works, and this disc is no exception. Bring on the 10th June!
