Patrick John Jones (b. 1989, London) is a British composer currently based in York. His music has been performed around the UK by artists and ensembles including the Britten Sinfonia, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Ensemble 10/10, Mahan Esfahani,Jane Chapman, Dark Inventions, The Fidelio Trio, Lontano, The Kreutzer Quartet, The Ligeti Quartet, and Octandre.

He has received commissions from Sound & Music for their Portfolio scheme, New Dots, and won the Britten Sinfonia’s OPUS2014 award. He was also a composer-in-residence at The Banff Centre, Alberta, in March 2015, the result of receiving The Jack Lyons Celebration Award from The University of York Music Department.

Current projects include a commission to write a piano concerto for Jin Hyung Lim and The University of York Chamber Orchestra – the result of receiving The Terry Holmes Composer/Performer Award. He is a recipient of the RPS Prize, which involves writing a new work for the Philharmonia Orchestra and taking part in The Philharmonia Young Composers Academy. Also in the works is an Arts Council funded recording and publishing initiative in collaboration with Dark Inventions and the University of York Music Press.

After taking courses in composition with Thomas Simaku and Roger Marsh during his BA in Music at The University of York, he continued studies to masters level at Kings College London with Rob Keeley. He is now working towards a PhD in Composition at The University of York, supervised by Thomas Simaku and funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council.
